A New Year in D.C.: CDA Dallas 8th Graders Take a Trip to Our Nation's Capitol

Katie Beth Pelley
January 4-7, 8th grade CDA Dallas students traveled to Washington D.C. to extend their learning far beyond the classroom walls. Students enjoyed sightseeing with tours of the White House, the Capitol, Museum of the Bible, and National Archives - just to name a few!
Jennifer Southerland, CDA Dallas Logic School Principal describes the purpose of the D.C. Trip, “Each year, our 8th graders travel to Washington, D.C., where we tour the nation’s capital giving students the opportunity to see first-hand what they have been studying at CDA.”

This year’s trip also included private group tours of the White House, Pentagon, National Gallery of Art, Museum of the Bible, and even more.

CDA Dallas parent and teacher, Laura Murray, planned the trip and created an action-packed itinerary. Murray shared her time and passion for government, history, and the city that she loves with everyone involved.

When asked about her favorite part of the trip Murray remarked, “I have a tie for my favorites! I always love the Hebrew Bible exhibit at the Museum of the Bible because it is an immersive, multimedia journey from creation to the end of the Old Testament. I love seeing it "click" in the student's minds, as what they have studied in Bible class comes to life.”

Murray went on to add, “This time I also loved that we were able to go on the House of Representatives Floor! The amazing staff from Congresswoman Van Duyne's office walked our students through the Capitol and let them sit in the actual chairs where elected officials sit and debate and vote.”
