CDA Celebrates Continuing Education

Over the summer three of our Dallas faculty graduated with master's degrees!
Like their students, CDA faculty members are lifelong learners. This summer three Dallas faculty graduated with master's degrees: Grammar school principal, Michele Howard, Logic school principal, Jennifer Southerland, and Logic and Rhetoric school English teacher, Mandi Gerth.
Howard and Southerland graduated from Gordon College with a Master of Arts in Leadership in Classical Christian Education and Gerth graduated from University of Dallas with a Master’s of Humanities with a Classical Education Concentration.
At Gordon College Howard and Southerland had the opportunity to be a part of a cohort made up of 19 other people from across the country who are passionate about classical Christian education. “I enjoyed the deep dive into classical education as well as the practical topics of leading a classical school. I also loved networking with other classical educators who I now call friends,” Southerland said.
When asked what she enjoyed about the program Howard said, “The classes were so applicable to what I do every day! I read wonderful books and had amazing professors. I’m very thankful this program was tailored to classical Christian schools. I also really enjoyed the capstone research and writing process.”
Through The University of Dallas, Gerth had the opportunity to travel to Rome last summer to study Shakespeare and the Baroque era with other classical educators. “I still communicate with the women I met there asking for prayer for our families, advice regarding struggles in the classroom, and insight into issues looming over Classical Education. It was a life-changing experience,” Gerth said.
When asked about the coursework Gerth shared how relevant and applicable it was. “God was constantly bringing up in my studies something that would come up in the classroom, or to have a book appear somewhere in my studies that I needed for what I was teaching that semester. He was always moving to make my studies relevant to my teaching. My students heard me say all the time, ‘I just wrote a paper on this...’ or ‘I was just reading about this...’ God is just that generous--to connect dots we didn't even know could be connected.”
CDA is proud to partner with faculty to support their continuing education. Congratulations on your hard work, Dallas educators!
