Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Kendall had the opportunity to visit Italy this past July, along with their daughters, Jolie (Class of 2020) and Grace (Class of 2019), to complement the CDA AP Art History class.
A highlight was visiting the Cerasi Chapel in the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome where they viewed works of art by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, “The Crucifixion of Saint Peter” which is displayed directly across from “Conversion on the Way to Damascus.” Mrs. Henderson uses artwork during her 6th grade Church History classes and Caravaggio’s painting of St. Paul is one of the pieces she shows to her students.
A framed printed canvas was recently purchased for Mrs. Henderson’s classroom and there was an “unveiling” during one of her classes. After the unveiling, she wrote, “I took photos of the chapel and the Crucifixion of Peter (painting). I showed them to my students when I unveiled the painting. I showed them the “before“ painting when the lights were off and told them about having to pay to turn the lights on. I showed them how plain the church was on the inside compared to other churches.” (see attached photos)
There are many beautiful pieces artwork displayed throughout the FM Campus. If you would like to see this framed print, contact Mrs. Henderson for viewing.
