Coram Deo Academy – TPSMEA All State Clinic and Concert!
In January, the 2019 Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) All State bands, choir and orchestra met in Richardson for three days of intense rehearsal and a final performance. Students from private schools across Texas auditioned for this prestigious event with Coram Deo Academy (CDA) taking 26 qualifiers from both Flower Mound and Collin County. CDA had a record 22 band and jazz band students, 1 choir student and 3 orchestra students qualify to attend this prestigious event.

The CDA band had the honor of having the most number of students to qualify for the All State Band of any private school in Texas! The band had musicians recognized during the performance as five-year and four-year qualifiers:
-        5-year qualifier - John Mark Davis
-        4-year qualifier – Grace Kendall, Paul Lee, Alec Mathews, AnnaMarie Miller and Drake Livingston
In addition, Grace Kendall made 1st chair flute, Ethan Joseph made 1st chair trumpet, Grant Hoffmann made 1st chair bass clarinet, Drake Livingston made 1st chair jazz trombone and Owen Gerth made 1st chair jazz alto saxophone! The demanding weekend, under the instruction of Dr. Derle Long (concert band) from the University of Louisiana Monroe; David Lown (jazz band), jazz program director at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake; Kirt Mosier (orchestra), director of orchestras at Lee’s Summit West High School in Missouri; and Dr. Carolyn Cruse (choir) Associate Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music Education at Texas Tech concluded with a final performance at the Eisemann Center. Parents, family and friends enjoyed beautiful music with considerable pride.
The evening of music featured classics of the band repertoire that many musicians don’t learn and perform until the collegiate level, and yet our students really had a chance to shine and play with such skill. The jazz band portion featured our very own students on brilliantly and soulfully performed solos, the choir portion of the evening was breathtakingly beautiful with a finale of the South African anthem “Shoshalosa”, and the orchestra delivered a diverse and entertaining set featuring CDA students.

CDA band directors Elizabeth Bowen and Natalie Clements and CDA choir director Sharon Miller were so proud of their students as they used their talents, commitment and heart to make music that glorifies almighty God. They are a special group that loves and supports each other while always seeking excellence.
