Grade PreK

Coram Deo Academy PreK program provides a safe and loving environment where children thrive as they learn and grow in a joyful and nurturing atmosphere. Our youngest students participate in fun and engaging activities that introduce them to the wonderful world of learning. Through these individual and group activities, students are taught phonics, handwriting, and math. Bible and history are taught through the art of storytelling.

In addition to the core subjects listed below, students will learn about science, history, geography and art.
  • Bible: PK

In PreK, the beloved stories of the Old Testament and New come alive as the children gather round their teacher to listen. Starting in Genesis, the stories of the Bible unfold to reveal God’s plan of salvation fulfilled in Christ-every story whispers His name…He is our rescuer! God’s Word is introduced as the final authority and source of all truth. Foundational Bible truths, skills, and character qualities are discovered as we move through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Finally, through these Bible stories, students will begin to see God’s plan of salvation revealed to all who call on His name.
  • Math: PK

PreK students begin to learn the basic concepts of math. Hands-on experiences through manipulatives, exploration, and play are the basis for our math lessons. Students are given a solid foundation of all areas of mathematics needed to prepare them for kindergarten. They will begin to develop an understanding of number sense and numeration, concepts of whole number operations, fractions and money. In addition, our students will identify and create geometric shapes and solve spatial problems, identify days of the week and months of the year, seasons and show and tell time to the hour. Other forms of measurement will include linear, weight, capacity and area. Students will learn to interpret information on a pictograph, a real graph as well as sort and identify fewest and most on a graph.
  • Penmanship: PK

    The PreK student learns to:
    •          use body awareness and other school readiness skills properly
    •          manipulate multi-sensory and hands-on materials
    •          develop an effective “crayon grip” and demonstrate other fine motor skills
    •          count, draw, recognize shapes and letter/number formations
    •          develop fine motor skills and posture for writing
    •          understand the developmental sequences involved in handwriting
  • Phonics/Reading: PK

In Phonics & Reading, students receive a comprehensive curriculum of instructionally sound lessons with highly motivating and multisensory activities that respect the needs and nature of young children. Through modeled instruction, the children play, build, sing, color, and learn while developing important skills for kindergarten that include: language proficiency, social skills, fine and gross motor control, color and shape awareness, letter and number recognition and counting. The program builds a solid foundation for early language & literacy skills with activities that develop understanding in six skill areas which include: phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, concepts about print, comprehension, oral language and writing. Family involvement is encouraged with take-home components to encourage the connection between learning at school and home situations- parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. Finally, through our Christ-centered classical approach to education, it is our desire that children will develop as confident, independent problem solvers and learners.
