CDA Dallas - The Womack Family

The Womack Family
"We are lucky to be at a school that values Christ and family as much as Coram Deo does. Our decision to try this previously unknown model was one of the best moves we’ve made as a family" - The Womack Family
During the past couple of years, we were enrolled in a five-day-a-week Christian school in the North Dallas area. While the education was great and the focus was on Christ, the grind of five full days of school was too much. Our oldest would often come home rather grumpy, being mentally and physically worn out. Once home, we found ourselves doing homework most days until dinner, then bath and bed. All that, only to repeat the same completely full schedule again and again.

We were planning on returning for the 2018-2019 school year and just hoping to power through it, when I learned about Coram Deo from a friend at church (The Village). He raved about the school in general and spoke highly of the education and the amazing time it gave them as a family. CDA gave them time to be together, travel when they could, and lead a less hectic school year. Most importantly, he impressed upon me that it was Christ-focused.

After pushing back slightly, as my bride didn’t believe she was a “home-school-capable mom,” my friend’s wife talked to us about how she felt/feels the same way. She explained to us how Coram Deo truly equips her with everything she needs to continue the education at home. Their earnest sales pitch was more than enough, and within a few weeks we walked away from our deposit at the former school and enrolled at Coram Deo.

Now a few weeks in, I can tell you a few things:

1)    The change is real. My wife absolutely feels equipped, but with three little dudes (23 months, 4 years, and 7 years) running around, carving out uninterrupted time can be a challenge (the little guy likes to make his presence known during most of his waking hours).

2)    The families in our boys’ classes have been more than welcoming, in an amazing way. Jamie never feels alone or finds herself unsure of who to ask a question to. From our teachers to virtually any other family, everyone seems more than willing to jump in and help as needed. Not only help with school work, but we’ve already been welcomed over for dinner, just to get to know some of our new Coram Deo family. It’s been refreshingly wonderful.

3)    The time we have back as a family is priceless. No more rushing out the door six days a week (school + church). We have mornings back. We have afternoons and evenings back. It’s been a major blessing. Our boys hop into the car after their days at school happy, energized, and in crazy upbeat moods. The exhausted grumpiness is a thing of the past!

We are lucky to be at a school that values Christ and family as much as Coram Deo does. Our decision to try this previously unknown model was one of the best moves we’ve made as a family. Thank you to everyone who has been part of welcoming us to our new school home.
