Rhetoric (9th–12th)

Preparing hearts and minds for influence

Rhetoric School Overview

In the Rhetoric stage, students apply the rules of logic to all the information they have learned in previous stages and express themselves with clarity and confidence. Here, they dive deeply into each subject: exploring poetry in literature, studying Physics in science, tackling Calculus in mathematics, and thoughtfully considering God’s call on their lives through Theology. This stage equips students not only for academic success, but for a lifetime of faithful influence.

Vocational Discipleship

Ethical Servant Leaders and Wise Thinkers

At Coram Deo Academy, students excel academically while growing in faith and character. Over 99% of graduates go directly to college, with some serving in missions or the military first. With a Classical Christian curriculum, personalized College Guidance, and teachers who know every student, CDA equips young people to thrive academically, spiritually, and personally—ready for whatever God leads them to next.

Rhetoric School Elective Courses

Athletics

Our commitment to the continued development of students extends beyond the home and classroom. Our athletic programs are used as a platform to assist in the development of character and integrity in our students. We believe the practice of biblical principles will create the discipline needed to live a successful life for Christ.

Arts

Through music, theater, and visual arts, students not only cultivate creativity and skill but also learn to reflect the beauty and order of God’s creation. Rooted in the traditions of Classical Christian education, the arts become a means of shaping character, nurturing discipline, and inspiring students to use their gifts for the glory of Christ.

Enrichment

Our commitment to nurturing a love of learning is reflected in a wide range of enrichment courses, such as Linguistics, Introduction to Python, Entrepreneurship, Speech and Debate, AP Latin, Digital Photography, Personal Finance, and more.

"My education at CDA was instrumental both in my studies and now in my work. CDA instilled core values and rhetoric training that allowed me to stand head and shoulders above my peers, both when communicating my own ideas and discerning right from wrong when hearing from others."

Bryton Praslicka

Class of 2015

“When students are on campus, they are given an opportunity to discuss what it means to fight temptation through our study of Kings Hezekiah and Josiah, or struggle with the problem of evil and God's sovereignty in a Socratic discussion on the Holocaust. This is just a glimpse of what goes on in a given day."

Dean Hatteberg

CDA Faculty

“CDA has given our son the challenges he needed, an opportunity to play sports, and a circle of friends who share our faith in God. Almost immediately I could see a difference in my son. He seems happier and more fulfilled. CDA has felt like the missing link.”

CDA Parent

"We cannot say enough about the caring teachers, coaches, and leadership at this school. It is a challenging program that prepared our children well for college success, and more importantly, reinforced a Christian worldview and strong foundation to build their lives upon."

Parent of CDA Alumni

“I was at CDA from 6th through 12th grade, which were highly formative years. I met people who are still my best friends to this day, sharing life and growing families side by side. In my experience, the relationships were rich. In terms of skills and coursework, rhetoric and the emphasis in public speaking built a confidence in me that still manifests in my business consulting, podcasting, or author talks.”

Are there opportunities for leadership development in Rhetoric School?

CDA’s House System serves as a form of student government, giving students opportunities to grow as leaders while building relationships and serving others. Houses work together on service projects and chapels while also enjoying friendly competition in academics and athletics.

Is Latin mandatory for Rhetoric School students?

At CDA, Latin I is a graduation requirement. Following CDA's curriculum, this course is typically completed in 8th grade. For students entering CDA in grades 6 and above, we offer a week of Summer Latin Camp to help orient your student before the start of school.

Because Latin I is a CDA graduation requirement, the class often is offered on Fridays to facilitate scheduling for new Rhetoric School students. After completing Latin I, Rhetoric School students have the option of continuing with Latin or taking Spanish I and II.
