CDA Homecoming: Abbi Koons, Class of 2014

This week is one of the most exciting times of the year at CDA and we’re happy to hear from our 2014 CDA graduate Abbi Koons.

She recently graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois this summer and is a 5th grade teacher who teaches reading comprehension and spelling at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas.

Thank you for your time Abbi!
What life lessons has CDA taught you?

CDA taught me how to lead with a servant's heart. From Chapel worship leader to Senior Class president, CDA provided me opportunities to not only pursue my passions and use my gifts, but to do so with an overwhelming desire to serve the Lord and others in my community.

What type of feelings did you have leading up to homecoming (as a former alum)?

This homecoming will be different since I will no longer see my brother on the field. However, it almost makes it more exciting as I hope he will be able to sit beside me in the stands and experience the same strange amazement of seeing unrecognizable young men and women who are learning and growing at the same amazing school.

What do you value most the CDA community?

I have always loved how the community at CDA felt safe and close. My class was never afraid to ask and debate the “dangerous” or “unknown” questions. Though I was taking hard classes, I remember performing much better when I came to this community and realized that I had the freedom to ask the teachers any questions in order to better understand the context. I also love that because of the university model, the school community is very family-knit, not just students. While the students do hang out with just their friends, it is never an uncommon thing for CDA families to come together and fellowship outside of school events. The family union is highly prioritized and valued at CDA and it’s one of the things I am most proud of when I think of the high school that the Lord blessed me with.
