The Importance Of Community - The Guthrie Family

The Guthries, one of our Flower Mound families, shares their story of how they were embraced by the CDA community and why it was encouraging to witness the truths of the Bible demonstrated though CDA's teachers and students.
My husband, Ken, and I are committed to raising our children with a firm grounding in their faith, and several years ago we began looking for a school that would work alongside us using God’s word as its foundation.  We heard about CDA from one of Ken’s co-workers and wanted to learn more, so we signed up for a campus visit. In the days before the visit we were looking for signs from God and spent a great deal of time in prayer about this decision.  At the campus visit we learned about the philosophy of the school, heard from administrators and Coram Deo parents, and were able to observe students in the classrooms being taught by dynamic teachers.  God pressed upon our hearts and clearly let us know that the time was right and Coram Deo Academy was the place for us.

We immediately felt embraced by the community of CDA, and as we got to know our children’s teachers, it became clear that the truths of the Bible weren’t just being taught, they were being lived out in the relationships between teachers and students.

At CDA, the Bible forms the foundation of all other texts, and all roads lead to God.
By being part of the Coram Deo community, God has shown us that family is central to His plan.  We’ve learned that loving and happy families don’t just happen by accident, we need to be intentional about finding time to be together for fun, worship, serving others, and simply being present to engage our children in rich conversation.

Coram Deo’s influence is evident in the choices our children have made.  Our son, Austin, chose to join a Christian fraternity during his freshman year of college at UNT, where he volunteered his time each week serving others.  Our daughter, Emily, a senior at CDA, serves meals to low income senior citizens each week and has served people in rural villages on the Amazon River alongside missionary doctors and dentists.  But by no means are our children alone in their good works.  Heartwarming stories of how students have touched the lives of countless others in our community and around the world are commonplace at CDA.

The students of Coram Deo Academy truly live up to the mission statement of the school: to train ethical servant leaders and wise thinkers who will shape the culture for the glory of God.
