Alumni Feature: Kaitlin Salisbury

We were able to sit down with CDA Class of 2018, Flower Mound student, Kaitlin Salisbury, and catch up with her life since graduating CDA.

Give a brief summary of what you've been doing since graduating from CDA.

I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma majoring in interior design. I have been mentoring girls through sorority bible study, I volunteered with Young Life’s special needs group, and have gotten plugged into a local church. I have been given the opportunity at OU to become the president of our interior design student organization and now serve as student representative on a board of professionals who further the profession of interior design throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

Tell us about the Outstanding Senior Award. How is this award chosen? What do you feel enabled you to achieve this great award?

I first hear about the opportunity to apply for this award from the director of the interior design program who suggested that I would be a great candidate. The award recipient is selected by Sooner Parents which is a board of parents, students, and professors throughout OU who evaluated our applications. One recipient was chosen from each college at the University and I was selected to represent the college of architecture. I believe I was selected because of the leadership role I have on campus and the board position I was granted which advocates for my future profession. I would not have received these leadership positions without running for the positions through interviews and speeches which I highly attribute to not only my development at OU but also through CDA’s intention to make us comfortable speaking in front of peers and groups.

How has your education at CDA shaped the person you are today?

My time at CDA pushed me into spaces of academics that challenged me. The ability to articulate my thoughts in speech and writing has allowed me to gain positions and be in leadership roles I believe I would not have had the confidence to apply for without my previous training. In addition, the rigor of CDA allowed be to be far more prepared than any of my peers who did not attend CDA because of the structure and self-motivation needed to graduate. Beyond academics Coram Deo allowed me to have a fundamental understanding of who Christ is through history, community, and teachings that prepared me to make my faith my own in college.
