The rhetoric stage requires students to articulate their learning through oral and written expression. 
At the Rhetoric (high school) stage, students are now able to apply the rules of logic to the information learned in previous stages and express themselves thoughtfully and confidently. A student has now “learned to express himself in language—how to say what he had to say elegantly and persuasively,” describes Dorothy Sayers in “The Lost Tools of Learning.” This is when they delve more deeply into each subject—in literature they study poetry; in science, Physics; in mathematics, Calculus; and in Theology, they discuss God’s call on each of their lives.
