CDA Students excel at 2018 NJCL Summer Convention

Two Coram Deo Academy students joined over 1500 students who capped off their summer vacation by attending the National Junior Classical League National Convention at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio from July 23rd to the 27th.
They thoroughly enjoyed the 80 degree weather while they took written tests, role played in an ancient Roman murder mystery, escaped from Pandora's box, competed in Latin contests, showed off their artwork, wrote essays, bought things at the Agora, met new people, and dodged sprinklers.

They also voted for officers, attended assemblies, learned about Cleopatra, made sleeping mats for the homeless as a part of a community service project, and dressed like Romans. There was much more to do, but one week in July did not afford enough time to do everything available.

Isabel Nichols represented the Rhetoric School (grades 9th-12th) and faced very stiff competition in the Latin III division. She placed 8th in Latin Oratory Level III and 10th in 10th Grade Essay. The Latin III division had the greatest number of contestants, and Isabel did admirably!

Kiley Furber represented the Logic School, (grades 5th-8th) and she brought home a long list of awards:

Mythology Level 1/2 - 10th; Latin Derivatives Level 1/2 - 9th; Latin Oratory Level 1/2 - 8th; 7th - 9th Grade Decorative Stitching - 8th; Academic Heptathlon Level 1/2 - 7th; Latin Vocabulary Level 1/2 - 7th; 7th - 8th Grade Essay - 6th; Ancient Geography Level 1/2 - 5th; Greek Derivatives Level 1/2 - 5th; Hellenic History Level 1/2 - 5th; Latin Dramatic Interpretation Level 1/2 - 4th; Latin Reading Comprehension Level 1/2 - 3rd; Latin Literature Level 1/2 - 2nd; Greek Life and Literature Level 1/2 - 1st.

Out of the over 1500 students present at the convention, Kiley came in 20th in Academic Testing - a truly remarkable feat!
