The demanding weekend, under the instruction of Dr. Derle Long (concert band) from the University of Louisiana Monroe; David Lown (jazz band), jazz program director at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake; Kirt Mosier (orchestra), director of orchestras at Lee’s Summit West High School in Missouri; and Dr. Carolyn Cruse (choir) Associate Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music Education at Texas Tech concluded with a final performance at the Eisemann Center. Parents, family and friends enjoyed beautiful music with considerable pride.
The evening of music featured classics of the band repertoire that many musicians don’t learn and perform until the collegiate level, and yet our students really had a chance to shine and play with such skill. The jazz band portion featured our very own students on brilliantly and soulfully performed solos, the choir portion of the evening was breathtakingly beautiful with a finale of the South African anthem “Shoshalosa”, and the orchestra delivered a diverse and entertaining set featuring CDA students.
CDA band directors Elizabeth Bowen and Natalie Clements and CDA choir director Sharon Miller were so proud of their students as they used their talents, commitment and heart to make music that glorifies almighty God. They are a special group that loves and supports each other while always seeking excellence.
