Twelfth Grade History

History IV: American History & US Constitution

Students will study the history of America, from the explorations and founding of Christian civilization in North America to the present. including include the basic background, chronology, and history of the Colonial Era, struggle for independence, the forming of the American nation and government, Westward exploration, the War Between the States, Westward expansion, the growth of the national government, imperialism, industrial advances, Christian missionary efforts, Populism and Progressivism, World War I, the Great Depression, the New Deal, World War II, the Cold War, the Great Society, Vietnam, Watergate, and modern America.  Students will learn the key dates of American history; the major individuals, peoples, nations, and events that shaped it; and the social, geographic, economic, political, philosophical; and theological underpinnings of it.

World-view perspectives will again be addressed, with students continuing to develop their ability to discern and discuss reality as individuals and groups in American history--both Christian and non-Christian--saw it, including their perception of the nature of the external world, human nature, the good that occurred in the world around them, and their outlook regarding the meaning of history.  Finally, students will develop and practice the ability to apply the knowledge and lessons of both Modern European history and economics to the challenges and issues of their own lives and world.
