PreKindergarten Mathematics

Arithmetic

The study of mathematics from a Christian world view is the study of God’s divine order revealed in the universe He created. It is a tool for studying His handiwork.  God’s gift of mathematics makes it possible for us to know and understand creation.  Without mathematics, we would have no means to measure and compute the magnificent world He created. As your children learn about concepts in math this year, they will be learning about God.  Every time a lesson is taught in the classroom, it will emphasize to your child His sovereignty -even as He is perfect, so we should strive for perfection, as mathematical principles are precise.  Our daily lives are to be lived by careful adherence to His principles. It is our goal to instill this wonderful gift that God has given in the heart of your children to advance His kingdom on earth for His honor and glory.

Saxon Math K is currently taught for the Pre K-4 program. It is a success-oriented program that enables children of diverse learning styles to develop a solid foundation of all areas of mathematics. Saxon Kindergarten mathematics includes three instructional components:  the Meeting, the Lesson and the Assessments.  The Scope and Sequence includes four strands.  The Number strand encompasses 4 basic areas:  number sense and numeration, concepts of whole number operations, fractions and money. The Geometry and Measurement Strand includes geometry and spatial relationships and various types of measurements (time and calendar, linear measure, weight, capacity and area).  The third strand includes Data analysis, Statistics, and Probability.  Patterns, Algebra, and Functions complete the final strand.  Math K has been carefully written to provide engaging activities and appropriate language for students at the Kindergarten level using basic mathematical concepts.
