Ninth Grade Language
Latin II
Coram Deo Academy Latin 2 students will learn intermediate vocabulary, advanced grammar, and intermediate translation from Jenny’s Second Year Latin, Prentice Hall by Charles Jenny. Students will memorize vocabulary, understand grammar, and learn to apply the vocabulary and grammar to the reading translation process. Students are introduced to English vocabulary derived from Latin words they are currently studying, enriching their vocabulary and preparing for future university testing. Students review and sharpen their English grammar as they learn Latin grammar. World-view perspectives will be addressed in each of the first twenty chapters of this college text with classical cultural items, which students will relate to their world today.
Spanish I
During the course of this class students will learn an extensive vocabulary along with the basic grammar encountered in introductory Spanish classes. Students will learn the present tense (regular and irregular verbs), present progressive, direct and indirect object pronouns, preterit tense (regular and irregular verbs) and other grammatical forms needed for basic communication. Since the class only meets twice a week there will be minimal exposure to the spoken language, but that should not be a hindrance to the learning process because the student is learning the basics. The students will also learn from the Hispanic cultural background seen in the textbook and from other sources brought into the classroom by the teacher.
