CDA takes 2nd overall at Districts
Coram Deo Academy students competed in the TAPPS arts, academics, and speech district contest at Lake Country Christian School in Fort Worth. CDA came in 2nd place overall in academic/speech competition and 4th in art competition overall out of the 7 district schools with 132 points, losing to Bethesda by only 4 points. This is the school's best academic/speech showing at the district meet since beginning competition in 2007.
Science
In academic and speech events, Miranda Meissner, Clayton King and Elise Bullock competed in Science, which consists of an overall test of the sciences and is also scored in individual science categories of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. King was 2nd in overall science and 1st in the chemistry portion of the testing. Bullock was 3rd in overall science and 1st in the physics portion of the testing. Both qualified for the state meet in April.
Speech
Ariel Heinsius, Kylie Roach, and Alicia Magee competed in Prose Reading. Heinsius placed 2nd, Roach placed 4th, and Magee placed 8th. Heinsius and Roach will move on to the state meet.
CDA swept the top three spots in Persuasive Speaking, with Carter Harms placing 1st, Wyatt Harms placing 2nd, and Chapin Cavender placing 3rd. All three will attend the state meet in Austin.
Original Oratory competitors were Ariel Heinsius, who took 3rd place, Elise Bullock, who took 4th place, and Alicia Magee, who took 5th place. Heinsius and Bullock qualified for the state meet.
Dillon Davidson, the TAPPS state champion in Current Events last year, placed 1st in the same event this year and will go to the state meet.
Mathematics
Miranda Meissner and Stanislav Nedzelska competed in Number Sense and Calculator. Nedzelska placed 4th in Number Sense and qualified for the state meet.
Miranda Meissner and Clayton King competed in TAPPS Math, where King took 4th and qualified for the state meet.
Chapin Cavender, Elise Bullock, and Stanislav Nedzelska competed in Advanced Math, Cavender placed 2nd and Nedzelska placed 3rd, so these young men will be at the state meet in April in this event .
Acting
Maddie Bell placed 1st, Tierza Henderson placed 4th, and Sarah Alsmiller placed 5th in Solo Acting. Bell and Henderson earned state meet slots for their outstanding performances.
CDA took the two top spots in Duet Acting. The female duet of Alicia Magee and Hannah Bowen were 1st, and the male duet of Clayton King and Ben Shadrick took 2nd. Both teams will travel to the state meet.
Literature
Tierza Henderson and Kacie Galloway competed in Literary Criticism, where Galloway placed 7th, and in Poetry Reading, where she placed 5th. Teammates Tierza Henderson and Evann Wu took 6th and 7th places, respectively, in Poetry.
Art
New to Coram Deo this year, art teacher Laura Neibert's art students had a terrific showing at the art meet, winning 4th place overall. Individual student awards are as follows:

5th place- Mark Borst "Soda Lamp"
Painting: 2nd place- Stanislav Nedzelska "Birds of Paradise"
5th place- Stanislav Nedzelska "The Ship in the Bottle"
Mixed Media: 4th place- Kyle Swank "Chair Print"
5th place- Alex Kotyk "Fish Print"
6th place- Allison Lewis "Flower Print"
Photography Unaltered: 3rd place- Colleen O'Connor "Thunderstorm"
6th place- Kyle Swank "Arch"
Photography Altered: 3rd place: Kyle Swank "Playing Piano"
Nedzelska, O'Connor, and Swank will all have their art traveling to compete at the state meet in Austin. This meet will be on the campus of Concordia University April 1 and 2.
